Xpose and Thredgeholder crash problem
ref.: Xpose and Thredgeholder both cause Adobe Photoshop CS4 to crash.

Do such filters not comply with Photoshop CS4 ??

(running on Windows 7 / 32 bits)

RE: Xpose and Thredgeholder crash problem
Hi Ron,

Sorry for the late reply. I appears no notification email was sent. As for CS4 support, I have just tested both Xpose and the free Thredgeholder plugin on Windows 7 without problem. Do you have GPU acceleration enabled? Can you provide some more detail on how CS4 crashes. Do you see the interface; can you see the previes image; are there any error messages?

RE: Xpose and Thredgeholder crash problem
I seem to be having the same issue with Sketcher and Thedgeholder.
Both plug-ins are installed in the adobe/photoshop/plugins folder, both appear in the Filter gallery under Little Ink Pot.

However, when I attempt to apply either one to an image, photoshop hangs for about 5 seconds or so, then Windows 7 pops up with an error box stating that "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped responding. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I'm using CS4, windows 7 (32 bit). It's on a Lenovo laptop so nothing special as far as the graphics card goes. Every other 3rd party filter I have installed works fine.

I've reinstalled the Sketcher 4 or 5 times (even tried re-downloading it in case it corrupted) but I still have the same result.

I'm dying to see how this works as it's something that we may use on a daily basis for our business.

Any help will be massively appreciated.

Troy.

RE: Xpose and Thredgeholder crash problem
Hi troyboy. I have a Lenovo Windows 7 laptop, a G550. I have installed the CS4 trial to test. The LittleInkPot filters have been installed to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins. They appear in the Filters menu and can be run without problem. However, they do not show in the Filter Gallery as you've described, and checking online I read that the filter gallery only shows the standard Adobe filters.

Can you confirm that the plugins appear in the Filter Gallery?

RE: Xpose and Thredgeholder crash problem
Hi David,

Thank you for your prompt reply.
I can confirm that the Little Ink Pot filter IS apprearing in the photoshop filter gallery. There's the default CS filters, then a list of 3rd party filters at the foot of that. It appears in there with my other 3rd party filters.

I just realised that Windows 7 loves running things as 'administrator' and so I've just tried that. Sadly, it's made no difference. Applying the filter to an image (seemingly irrelevant of size or resolution) causes CS4 to crash as described above. No effect is applied to the image before the crash occurs.

I've tried running the install program as prescribed and also extracting the files direct to the plug-ins folder. Makes no difference. The result is the same.

In the Start menu, there's no executable to run it outside of photoshop. Shoud there be? There's just the manual and an uninstall option.

Cheers,

Troy.
A thought just occurred to me.....if the filter doesn't appear in the filters list for other people, how are they running the filter? If you can let me know how that's happening, I'll give it a go and let you know what happens.

Troy.

RE: Xpose and Thredgeholder crash problem
That's my suspicion. For me, I access the LIP filters from CS4's Filters menu. Your problems may be some incompatibility with the Filter Gallery. The plugins themselves (excepting The Sketcher Plugin) are simple .8bf files, so regardless of installation options, if you drop the Thredgeholder.8bf file or similar into your plugins folder, it should get added. I tried this myself, moving the the plugins around to try and get them to appear in the Filter Gallery, but couldn't manage it, and Google only found pages saying you couldn't get 3rd party plugins into the Filter Gallery.

If we can find out the difference between the Filter Gallery listings and absences, we might find the cause. I'll ask around. Let me know if you find anything too!
